Preparations continue to march along for this year’s First Nations Summer Games.
The Muskoday First Nation is hosting this year’s event in partnership with Prince Albert and Birch Hills.
The games run from July 15-19.
Games marketing coordinator Dean Bear says Juno award winner Crystal Shawanda will be performing at a concert in the park for the games.
He also says they have made a conscious decision to try and promote First Nations culture at the games for the benefit of all:
“Yeah it is because that’s one thing people have to be very, very proud of. It doesn’t matter whether what ethnic background you come from – being able to be proud of what you are and where you came from and being able to show that off to the whole community.”
Bear adds they’re optimistic things will begin to dry up soon and they’ll have warm weather by June.
He says they are still looking for volunteers so anyone who wants to participate should contact them.
