A drum group from the Big River First Nation was recently honoured with a prestigious award.
The Big River Cree won the trophy for best group or duo at the Native American Music Awards.
A ceremony took place a week or so ago in New York.
Kelly Parker of Turtle Island Music says it was a real thrill for everyone in the band:
“They were nominated which was pretty exciting, and I know the guys were excited to go down there.”
He adds the other nominations were for best production on an album and best pow-wow music.
He adds the group is already working on its next album which should be finished sometime next month.
