Counsellors have been made available to students of a La Ronge area school where a shooting incident happened on Monday.
The incident at Senator Myles Venne School took place after two youth were involved in an fight.
Around noon one of them returned to the school with a gun and fired several shots into the ground.
There were no injuries but the school was on a partial lock-down for some of the afternoon.
Director of Education Morris Cook says a meeting of the school board was held this morning and counselors are available to students today:
“We have contacted Mental Health already to come into the school not only to debrief with the students that witnessed the altercation but also talk to some staff who may want to talk to somebody so we do have those inter-agency connections within the Lac La Ronge Indian Band.”
Cook says the school has a Safe Schools Policy which was followed correctly after the incident.
He says one of the students involved is in custody and the other has been suspended.
