The families of two men killed in a plane crash in northern Saskatchewan two years ago are suing the airline for damages.

Wade Cooper, 44, and Daniel Mantyka, 21, were passengers on a Lawrence Bay Airways float plane when it crashed into Buss Lake on June 30, 2011.

The statements of claim, filed in Saskatoon Court of Queen’s Bench last month, says the pilot, Andre Gagnon,  improperly distributed cargo and flew the plane at an altitude below 300 feet, which caused it to stall and crash.

It also says the De Havilland DHC-2 should have been installed with a stall warning device.

The families are suing for funeral costs, loss of income and grief.

The allegations have not been proven in court.
