Cameco has released its sustainable development report for 2012.

The company says support for its activities in Northern Saskatchewan is up 10% from last year.

Fast Consulting polled 1,000 people across both the south and northern portions of the province.

Cameco spokeswoman Carey Hyndman says the numbers showed that 77% of northern residents were either strongly supportive or somewhat supportive of the companies’ activities in their area:

“We do regular polling in the areas where we operate and we found this year that we have very strong support for our activities in those areas.  This increase by 10% in Northern Saskatchewan brings us back to historic levels.”

A recent report by the community vitality monitoring partnership found that some communities don’t feel all that informed by uranium companies about their activities.

Hyndman wasn’t sure if they had come across that response during their survey.

She adds they also spent $450 million in 2012 on local services from Northern Saskatchewan businesses.

She says this would include things like Cigar Lake construction projects and any work at McArthur River.
