An inmate with a long history of violent crimes will have to wait until September to learn if he will be sentenced as a long-term or dangerous offender for his latest crime.
In February, 41-year-old Gregory Todd Bellegarde was convicted of assault causing bodily harm for punching another inmate at the Regina Correctional Centre in 2010.
The victim suffered a broken jaw and fractured eye socket.
Bellegarde’s case has been adjourned until September 18 to allow for the preparation of a report to determine if he should be declared a long-term or dangerous offender.
Such a designation could lead to an indefinite prison term.
