The village of Cumberland House is safe and secure.
That’s the message coming from community leaders.
Cumberland House Cree Nation Chief Lorne Stewart and village mayor Val Deschambault issued a news release yesterday to reassure citizens their homes are being looked after.
They say pets are being fed by workers on site and extra food is being flown in.
Sandbags, dikes and berms have have also been set up to protect infrastructure.
Roughly 2,200 residents of the two communities were evacuated earlier this week because of the threat of serious flooding, which officials estimate will likely keep locals away from their homes for at least two weeks.
About 110 people remain in the area to oversee security, protection and maintenance efforts.
