Prince Albert’s top police official has released details on a shooting death last night involving two of his officers.

Chief Troy Cooper says the original call came in at around 9:00 pm about a fight and assault in the 2900 block of 5A Avenue East.

Two officers entered a housing complex and were confronted by a 27-year-old man who had a knife.

Cooper says it is believed that both officers fired their guns.

The man was taken to Victoria Hospital and was later pronounced dead.

The two officers were not injured.

The investigation continues and the man’s name has not been released.

The Coroner’s Office is now involved and an independent observer appointed by the Ministry of Justice will also submit a report.
