Sobeys made a significant donation Tuesday that will go a long way in helping people who use the Saskatoon Food Bank.
The grocery store chain gave the local food bank a close to $47,000 donation which will be used to purchase various food items.
Saskatoon Food Bank executive director Laurie O’ Connor says the donation is a timely one as the summer months tend to be busy.
“We find that there’s a slight increase in usage over the summer months, and that may surprise some people, but when people who are struggling have their children home all day long, of course their food budget has to be stretched even that much longer, you know, rather than being able to access school nutrition programs,” she says.
The money was raised during Sobeys’ “Hop to Help” Easter fundraiser campaign.
