Plans are in the works to hold a ceremony later this year to honour the province’s outstanding Metis citizens.
Metis Employment and Training is organizing the first ever “Heart of the Metis Awards” in Saskatoon on December 4th.
METSI CEO Constance Hourie says it’s time there was an awards ceremony held to honour Metis people, specifically.
Hourie also admits that with all the negative publicity the Metis election controversy has generated, it’s a good time to highlight the positive contributions Metis people make.
The awards are open to any Saskatchewan person of Metis ancestry — they do have to be active members of the Metis Nation.
Nomination forms can be obtained at any of the regional METSI offices around the province or by calling the METSI head office in Saskatoon.
