RCMP say the six-year-old boy found dead on the Kahkewistahaw First Nation last week was the victim of a homicide.
Police suspected Lee Allan Bonneau was a victim of a suspicious sudden death after finding him with injuries in an open area along a tree line on the reserve late Wednesday evening.
Lee was rushed to Broadview hospital where he was pronounced dead.
He had been seen playing with dogs at a local community centre about two hours earlier before going missing.
Now, the Mounties’ Major Crime Unit is reporting that autopsy results and other information obtained by investigators have confirmed that his death was the result of an assault.
Investigators say they have spoken with several people who were in contact or would have seen Lee before the assault took place.
So far, no charges have been laid.
The province has confirmed the boy was in the care of the Ministry of Social Services.
