A long-time rodeo legend is back in the saddle on the Kahkewistahaw first nation near Broadview.
Over the weekend Louis Taypotat was elected chief of the first nation in a court-ordered election.
He defeated his nephew Sheldon Taypotat to resume a job he has held for 32 years.
This morning he was sworn in and conducted his first band council meeting.
Back in 2011, Louis was not allowed to run because the bands election act disqualified candidates who did not have a high school education.
The federal court of appeal ruled that was unconstitutional and ordered the new vote.
Louis Taypotat, who is 75 years-old, says his first order of business is healing wounds caused by a split on the reserve over the election act.
