The Metis Nation of Saskatchewan is calling on the Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada, along with all Saskatchewan Conservative MPs, to meet with its executive regarding some concerns of a Northern Saskatchewan MP.
This morning MN-S President Robert Doucette and Treasurer Louie Gardiner met with media to address allegations that Desnethe-Missinippi-Churchill River MP Rob Clarke brought forth last week regarding transparency and accountability within the organization.
Doucette and Gardiner say Clarke has never contacted them about his concerns, and they found out about them through the media:
“I’m not really quite sure what MP Clarke is concerned about because he’s never talked to us about his concerns. He’s only talked to one side about it. If you’re going to be fair about things, if you’re going to be an MP that represents all Canadians then you should be getting the story from both sides to make it fair. So you can make a correct assessment.”
Doucette says all of the MN-S audits back to 2005 are on its website.
He also says that the chief financial auditor for AANDC has spoken to MN-S regional directors via teleconference, and said there was no misappropriation, but some management issues that the government would work through with the MN-S.
Doucette says if Clarke can’t be fair and work with all side then he should be removed from his position of Chair of the federal Aboriginal caucus.
