The Lac La Ronge Indian Band is mourning the passing of a distinguished elder.
Catherine Charles passed away yesterday.
She had served on the council of elders for the past 18 years.
She was also heavily involved in the community, devoting her time to such groups as the education board, school committee, long term care home, Kitsaki management and others.
In a release the chief of the band, Tammy Cook-Seerson, says she considered Elder Catherine to be a mentor, guide and a source of knowledge and will always remember her smile and sense of humour.
Wake services are set to take place on Sunday afternoon, 5 p.m. at the Jonas Roberts Memorial Community Centre.
A funeral will will take place on Monday.
The First Nation has designated Monday as a day of mourning and all schools and offices will be closed.
