The mayor of Creighton says he wants to set the record straight about some recent comments that were made about his community.

Bruce Fidler is responding to comments by Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation councillor Eileen Linkater.

In a recent interview, she said the community hadn’t been invited to participate in meetings that were related to Creighton’s involvement in the site selection process for a nuclear waste repository.

In a letter, Fidler explains he attended a meeting in Southend on June 13 with two members of the Nuclear Waste Management Organization.

At the time, he says they gave a question and answer session and told the audience they would be happy to come to any community to give a presentation.

Fidler says letters have been sent to the chief, and that an offer still stands for someone from the band to become a member of the community liaison committee.

Linklater says she remembers Fidler coming to Southend in June, because she was there.

She doesn’t recall the offer for future visitations to other communities — but says she will check the minutes of the meeting in the near future.
