The search to find the body of a missing elder from the Lac La Ronge Indian Band has entered a new phase.
Despite weeks of searching volunteers still haven’t found the body of Solomon Roberts.
The elder went through the ice on Otter Lake on November 12.
Band councillor Leon Charles says the search area is two kilometres wide and covers a large area of the main lake.
Today a U.S. company completed its last search with a remote operated vehicle.
The underwater ROV surveyed the waters with sonar imaging and video-array.
However despite two weeks of searching the U.S. team hasn’t found anything and is set to leave.
Charles says they’ve done their best:
“We’re stunned we haven’t found him. Yeah, we’re very surprised we haven’t found him and we searched that whole area where the snowmobile is. We searched the left side, the north side, the south side, the east side.”
He says Roberts was just out for a drive on his sled when the accident occurred.
Charles says they now have to reassess where to take the search from here.
