North Battleford RCMP have not been able to confirm whether or not coyotes have been making their way into the city.

On Friday, police received reports of a sighting on 102nd Street and another report Saturday in the area of Douglas Avenue.

Sgt. Neil Tremblay says these kinds of reports are not unusual, especially in the winter:

“Through the last week or so we’ve had a couple of calls regarding people seeing what they believe to be a coyote in a residential area near the edge of town.  It’s not uncommon for us to get some wildlife complaints.  Moose and deer are more likely than a coyote, but we do get the odd complaint of a coyote, a wolf or even a cougar on one occasion.”

Tremblay says officers followed up the reports, but did not see anything — and there have no more sightings in the last 48 hours.

Anyone seeing a coyote or other wildlife in an urban area can notify the police or a Saskatchewan Environment Conservation Officer.
