The Liberal Party is scoping out potential candidates to run in the riding of Desnethe-Missinipi Churchill River.
A constituency meeting is planned for Sunday in Prince Albert to discuss this and other issues.
Although an election isn’t scheduled to take place until 2015 organizers say they want to be ready.
Long-time party member John Dorion says it takes about a year to get ready for a federal election, and that includes three to four months of campaigning in the various communities.
He says there are roughly five potential candidates so far and he expects that number could grow:
“There’ll probably be some more eh, because it looks good for the Liberals in the next federal election, things are turning around for us.”
Dorion says they will take time at the meeting to explain the nomination process in detail.
An expert on the matter has also been brought in from the Federal party to help break down the ins and outs of the process.
Dorion says these are exciting times for the Liberals as it has been rejuvenated by the election of Justin Trudeau as leader.
Dorion worked on Trudeau’s campaign team in Saskatchewan and says there is good support for him:
“I was down in Cumberland House, Shoal Lake and Red Earth and he got pretty good support from the young people which is a good sign.”
