A proposed plan to sell Casino Regina and Casino Moose Jaw to the Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority has apparently been put on the shelf, at least for now.
This morning, Opposition issued a news release saying a secret deal to sell the two casinos had been made with the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations.
The sale price would reportedly have been somewhere between $100 million to $200 million.
The deal also was also said to include online gaming, which had initially been ruled out by the government in November of 2012.
However, since that time the government has put out its own release.
It confirms that talks were in place and an MOU had been drafted.
But the government says the move would have required an amendment to the Crown Corporation Public Ownership Act, something it needed support from the Opposition on.
It says it briefed the Opposition leader on the situation, but he declined the proposal.
That point is something the NDP is strongly disputing.
Leader Cam Broten says the government did approach them, but wouldn’t allow his party to see the MOU in question.
