A northern Saskatchewan woman sobbed as she was escorted out of a Prince Albert courtoom after a judge sentenced her to 26 months in jail in connection with a fatal hit and run that killed a 21-year-old man.

Danielle Nadine Chamakese, 22, was sentenced Tuesday afternoon at Prince Albert Court of Queen’s Bench.

The Pelican Lake woman is also prohibited from driving for one year after her release from prison and must submit a DNA sample for the national registry.

Robert Burn’s is Daniel Carter’s step-father.

“It’ll never bring Daniel back.  But I’ll guess we’ll all have to carry on as best we can.”

Chamakese, was convicted in December of dangerous driving causing death and leaving the scene of an accident.

Daniel Carter died after he was hit by a car outside Stavros Lounge in Prince Albert on Sept. 19, 2010.
