Students in Cumberland House are going to learn more about water security.
On Monday the University of Saskatchewan is taking the play “Downstream” to Charlebois School.
The production was written by Ken Williams of the Saskatchewan Native Theatre Company, and focuses on a series of water workshops that took place in Alberta and Saskatchewan in 2012.
Graham Strickert is part of the 10-person team that’s touring the production in both provinces.
He says the play calls on the audience to help make decisions about the future of their water supply:
“It’s a forum-theatre so it really engages the audience. It’s not a passive performance the audience has to pay attention and allocate resources to provide different (services) during the performance to respond to a water crisis. ”
That could mean asking whether authorities should breach a levee and flood certain parts of the community to save an entire village.
The play will stop in Calgary, Medicine Hat and Saskatoon as part of the tour.
