The City of Meadow Lake has been found guilty of more than $11,000 in fines for violations of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

The charges relate to an incident that occurred on a local construction site in September 2011 where a worker was found at the bottom of an unshored trench.

In one set of charges, the city pleaded guilty of failing to ensure the worker was protected from caving-in while working in the trench.

In the other set, Meadow Lake was convicted of failing to ensure the same trench was free of water.

The decision was handed down in provincial court on February 24.
