Hatchet Lake Residents Voting for New Chief

Members of the Hatchet Lake First Nation will choose a new chief today.

Today’s by-election pits Louis Josie against Charlie Denechezhe.

The by-election was necessary after former chief Angus Joseyounen handed in his resignation last month.

Joseyounen was asked by the community’s elders to remove himself from office after coming out on the wrong end of a non-confidence vote.

His term was due to expire next May.
