The Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation has received a new accreditation for Child and Family Services.

The designation comes from the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities.

CARF is an independent body which sets standards in the human services field, including child and youth services.

PBCN Chief Peter A. Beatty says the agency now conforms to nationally and internationally-recognized service standards.

Beatty says work is being done to ensure that children and families in PBCN communities receive the best service possible.

Saskatchewan Social Services Minister June Draude says PBCN is one of several First Nations which have worked to achieve this designation:

“La Ronge First Nation received their accreditation a couple of years ago, and we have other First Nations agencies that our working towards their accreditation.  Peter Ballantyne received their accreditation within six months — which, to me, just underlines their commitment and their passion for the job that they have.”

Draude says the accreditation process looks at a number of areas including personnel, buildings, and processes used to monitor the children in care.
