Some Northlands College students will be the centre of attention tomorrow night in La Ronge at what’s being called a Northern Visionaries Gala.

Their teacher, Brandi Bell, says the event will recognize students for their video essays on leadership, technology or community and economic development in the province’s north:

“It has been an amazing process to watch the students have the opportunity to present from their personal experiences on they can make each of their home communities in the north better, as well as Northlands College.”

Thirty-eight students made submissions.  The five finalists will have their videos shown tomorrow night.  The winner will earn a trip for two to the Kennedy Space Centre in Florida and a $1,250 scholarship — but all of the finalists will be taking home scholarship money.

The event will be attended by provincial cabinet minister Rob Norris, local MP Rob Clarke and local MLA Doyle Vermette — in addition to municipal leaders, business leaders and numerous deans, directors and professors from the province’s two largest universities.
