A La Ronge man charged in the death of a teen in Prince Albert has been handed an eight-and-a-half year prison term.

Twenty-five-year-old Scott Keighley appeared in Prince Albert Court of Queen’s Bench yesterday and entered a guilty plea to a charge of manslaughter.

He had originally been charged with second-degree murder, but was sentenced to the lesser charge.

In November 2011, the body of 17-year-old Wilfred Canada was found by police in the 800 block of 3rd Street East.

Keighley was arrested later that month and has been in custody since then.

He was given credit for his time in remand and so will serve another five-and-a-half-years.

Keighley was also handed a lifetime firearms ban.
