The body of an Ochapawace First Nation teen, who had been missing for close to two weeks, was discovered on the weekend.
Seventeen-year-old Kelly Allary was found by his sister close to his home in a location near Round Lake.
He had last been seen on Monday May 19
Ochapawace First Nation Chief Margaret Bear says Allary’s sister said a prayer and was told to go back to a spot that had been searched several times already by both RCMP and volunteer searchers.
It was at this location she discovered her brother’s remains floating in the water.
Chief Bear says the discovery of the body is certainly not how anyone wanted the search to end but at least it will provide some closure to Allary’s family and they can have a proper burial.
Kelly Allary would have been 18 on Sunday and instead of a birthday party, a celebration of his life was held on the reserve.
RCMP Sergeant Craig Cleary says an autopsy will be conducted Monday or Tuesday to determine the cause of death.
Preliminary results could be known later this week.
He also says it is not uncommon for a body that has been submerged to resurface days after a person entered the water.
Cleary confirms the area was searched by RCMP at least twice.
RCMP used a plane, boats, divers and ground crews during a two-week effort to locate Allary.
Dozens of community members, residents from nearby First Nations and businesses were also heavily involved in the search.
