Officials say a wildfire which came close to the communities of Creighton and Flin Flon on the weekend is now listed as contained.
About half of the blaze was situated on the Saskatchewan side and the other half in Manitoba.
Crews from both provinces were called in to fight the fire, which came close to the airport.
Saskatchewan’s Provincial Fire Centre Manager Scott Wasylenchuk says there were no buildings damaged and no evacuations.
“Right now, it’s listed at 45 hectares and it’s listed as contained,” he says. “We have ground crews and a helicopter on it right now, patrolling for hot spots, but it’s looking really good at this time. It was reported on May 31 (Saturday) around the noon hour. We responded to it, Manitoba responded to it and a local fire department also responded – so it was a multi-agency fire.”
Wasylenchuk says conditions have been dry and windy and anyone in the forest is asked to be very careful with campfires.
