The Saskatoon Indian and Metis Friendship Centre held its 30th annual Aboriginal graduation last night at the Prairieland Hall.

The celebration allows all the Aboriginal students in Saskatoon to gather together and be honoured.

Friendship centre executive director Bill Mintram was happy with the turnout:

“We had 153 Grade 12 Aboriginal students registered for tonight’s event and this event is focused around honouring and recognizing those graduates for that achievement of completing Grade 12.  It is also an event where the community is able to show the grads that they support them, they want to walk with them in their journeys — wherever they are headed, wherever they are passionate about.”

The evening included handing out over 25 scholarships.

The scholarships were not just based on academic excellence — they included community involvement, sports and leadership.

Mintram says this year’s Aboriginal graduation honoured the largest group to date.
