RCMP are now confirming that the remains located on the Muskowekwan First Nation earlier this week are, in fact, human.
Mounties from Punnichy were called to the Muskowekwan reserve around 5 p.m. Tuesday after a local resident found the remains not far from his home.
Police say an autopsy will take place this week to determine a cause of death and assist in confirming the identity of the remains.
The RCMP’s Major Crimes Unit is leading the investigation with the assistance of the Office of the Chief Coroner, a forensic anthropologist and the RCMP’s Yorkton-based Forensic Identification Section.
