An Aboriginal music documentary is debuting at Saskatoon’s Broadway Theatre next week.
Aboriginal filmmaker Aaron Peters directed the documentary called “Independent Dog Face: The Movie”.
The film focuses on the Spring Fever Cabaret that took place in Saskatoon in late April.
Peters filmed the entire cabaret and will showcase the film this coming Tuesday at 7 pm.
The documentary will highlight the local music scene and all that goes into putting on these events.
Independent Dog Face is owned by the Standing family.
The family has made it their mission to promote First Nations talent in Saskatoon.
Chris Standing says the documentary showcases the family behind the entertainment business:
“What this film is about is what we have been doing for the last three years — my family, my dad, my brother, working with Black Rain. There are interviews with the band, venue owners and the models that take part in our events, and even our family is in the film. We are pretty much telling our story as to what we have been doing and the struggles we have been through.”
The documentary will kick off with an Aboriginal fashion show. This is an all ages event and tickets are on sale for $10 at the Broadway Theatre.
Independent Dog Face has been providing a platform for Aboriginal talent in Saskatoon since 2011.
