Officials with Saskatchewan Environment are seeking the public’s assistance regarding a fishing violation on Little Waterhen Lake.
On May 31, an unmarked net was removed from the southeast side of the lake.
The net contained a large number of fish that had been left to rot.
Conservation Officer Rich Hildebrand says it was an unusual find.
“There was about 35 large decomposed walleye exceeding 55 centimetres which are 3 to 5 pounds, as well there was 15 or so northern pike, 8 to 10 pounds, plus numerous suckers and burbot,” he says.
Hildebrand says it is a larger mesh net about 100 metres in length.
He adds Little Waterhen Lake is used for both Aboriginal sustenance fishing and sport fishing and there has never been an incident like this reported in the past.
