The Whitecap Dakota First Nation is moving ahead with plans to build a new clubhouse at its Dakota Dunes Golf Links.

The $3.3 million project is set to be completed sometime in May 2015.

The golf course has been using a temporary clubhouse since it opened in 2004.

However, Chief Darcy Bear says any delays in the project have nothing do with an ongoing fraud case where a former employee allegedly stole millions of dollars from the band.

“This is separate from that, so like I said, it’s its own corporation, etc., so we have our own retained earnings here,” he says.

Dakota Dunes General Manager McLaren Taylor adds the new clubhouse will give the golf course the prestige it deserves.

“It’s just what people expect when they come out to a world class golf course,” he says. “They don t expect to see trailers.”

The 7,100 square foot facility will have two stories, an expanded pro shop and a restaurant with capacity for 80 people.

The new clubhouse will also feature locker rooms, a meeting space and club storage.

Dakota Dunes Golf Links is located on the Whitecap Dakota First Nation, just outside of Saskatoon.
