Thirteen of 70 Saskatchewan First Nations now have their financial statements posted on the federal government’s website.
The new requirements are part of the Harper government’s First Nations Financial Transparency Act which came into effect Tuesday evening.
The legislation includes regulations that all chief and council salaries must be posted online.
Of the bands that have reported so far, on the high end of the scale is Big River First Nation Chief Bruce Morin who is drawing a total income of just under $145,000 with salary and other expenses taken into account.
Not far behind is Cumberland House Cree Nation Chief Lorne Stewart with an income of a little over $144,000 with all expenses taken into account.
On the low end of the scale is Saulteaux First Nation Chief Velma Night who drew a salary of just over $5,000 for one month of service.
Thunderchild First Nation has posted its financial statements but not chief and council salaries.
