Grey Cup champion Geroy Simon brought his Coats 4 Kids program to Buffalo Narrows Friday afternoon thanks to a partnership with Cameco.
Children in five different northern Saskatchewan communities will receive new or almost new winter coats from the program.
Geroy’s Coats 4 Kids campaign started last year and has delivered thousands of coats to children in the province.
The former Saskatchewan Roughriders wide receiver says he doesn’t want to just be a football player and the program helps him be a positive influence in the community as well.
“I wanted to do something more than just play a sport,” he says. “With this program I want to make an impact everywhere.”
Not only did Simon deliver coats, he also spoke to students in Buffalo Narrows about hard work, making right choices, teamwork and what it takes to be a champion.
“In order to become a champion you have to live your life like a champion,” he says.
Cameco’s new partnership with Coats 4 Kids has helped the program reach northern Saskatchewan for the first time.
Wollaston Lake, Southend, Patuanak and Pelican Narrows will also receive deliveries this winter.
In total, more than 500 coats will be shipped to northern Saskatchewan this year.
