Saskatchewan snowmobilers should expect to pay a little more on their registration fees over the next few years.
The Saskatchewan Snowmobile Association signed a new contract with the government that will see registration fees increase by $10 a year for the next four years, which means fees will rise to $110 by 2018.
“The SSA requested this fee increase to better support the long term sustainability of the snowmobile trail system,” Saskatchewan Snowmobile Association CEO Chris Brewer says. “We thank the government for responding to our request and for recognizing the value of recreational snowmobiling to Saskatchewan.”
The SSA manages all of Saskatchewan’s groomed snowmobile trails.
There are currently no groomed trails in northern Saskatchewan but Brewer says this could change with a bit of increased interest.
“If there is a club that develops that wants to get into the development of groomed trails we will definitely look into it.”
He says the fee increase is for the long-term sustainability of the snowmobile trail system.
Saskatchewan has nearly 10,000 kilometres of groomed snowmobile trails.
