The Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations says the Harper government’s First Nations Financial Transparency Act has “several flaws”.

In a release issued this morning, FSIN Vice-Chief Heather Bear says the act was pushed through without consultation and does not respect inherent treaty rights.

The FSIN also says the government is being unfair to threaten withholding capital transfers for non-compliance.

A number of Saskatchewan First Nations are refusing to comply with the legislation, including the Onion Lake Cree Nation.

Onion Lake is taking the government to court over the matter.
