RCMP are warning about a major theft ring operating in west central Saskatchewan.
The targets are vehicles and the thefts are taking place in isolated rural areas.
Between January 2012 and this September, 385 vehicles worth $2 million were stolen.
Most ended up being recovered in a rural area south of The Battlefords.
The vehicles were stripped of tires, suspensions, engines and drivetrains, which were likely sold on the black market.
Most of the stolen vehicles had been left unlocked and with the keys in them.
They were often stored in Quonsets or outbuildings on farms.
On one occasion, an owner caught the thieves in the act and was nearly run over as they made their getaway in a stolen car.
RCMP are advising people not to confront the criminals but rather take preventative action to make yourself less of a target.
Police say vehicles should always be locked and they also recommend installing motion sensing security lighting and even alarms.
If you are a victim, call 911 and try to get as much information as you can about the suspect vehicle and the direction it is headed.
