The residents of Fond du Lac have given their stamp of approval to a new Election Act.
About 80 per cent of the voters that took part in yesterday’s referendum voted in favour of the new legislation.
Roughly 17 per cent of the voters were opposed, while the remaining three per cent of the ballots were spoiled.
Band officials hope the new act will tighten up some of the loopholes that caused headaches in previous elections.
A by-election will be held in Fond du Lac on December 17th to find a replacement for former chief Eddie Martin, who recently passed away after a battle with cancer.
