Homeless Sandy Bay Woman Gets Her Wish

A Sandy Bay woman that temporarily lived in a tent earlier this fall to protest her lack of a home was given some good news this morning.

Linda Beatty has been informed she will get a newly-renovated three-bedroom house of her own in February.

The single mother of three has been living in a trailer that’s been used as a community youth centre.

Over the past several years, she and her young ones have been living in the homes of friends and relatives — a situation that’s all too common for single moms in Sandy Bay.

And even though Beatty has to wait a few more months for her home, she at least knows there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Sask Housing officials had indicated that her protest would not affect her chances of her getting a house of her own, but Beatty thinks it helped.

Beatty also promises to help single mothers the way others have helped her.
