A prominent First Nations business leader in Prince Albert has been named to the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce.
Northern Lights Casino general manager Richard Ahenakew says it was only recently that he was asked to sit on the chamber. He says he agreed to take up the offer only after some careful thought and study.
Ahenakew says the Aboriginal business community is very proactive in Saskatchewan, and that’s something he hopes to touch on while serving on the committee.
Ahenakew feels more and more Saskatchewan businesses are becoming aware of the young First Nations workforce that is out there.
He says he hopes to be a guide for businesses that don’t know where to turn to utilize that resource.
He adds participation in the business sector by First Nations is equally important as government involvement if Aboriginal people are to move forward.
Ahenakew is joined on the chamber by Loren Sproat, also with the Northern Lights Casino and Weyerhaeuser spokesman Wayne Roznowsky.
