Province Invests Millions in Firefighting Fleet

The provincial government is spending $42 million over the next four years to modernize northern Saskatchewan’s firefighting fleet.
The province plans to buy four new retardent-carrying land-based turbine airtankers and three twin-engine turbine guide craft.
The long-term plans includes either upgrading or replacing the province’s six CL-215 amphibious aircraft.
Environment Minister David Forbes says the upgrades will start this winter with the purchase of a light, fast-flying, twin-engine turbine aircraft.
There will also be improvements made to northern infrastructure including hangars, tarmacs, aprons and runways.
