Protesters Hold Sit-in at METSI Office

Protesters at the Metis Employment and Training office in Saskatoon say they’re not going anywhere until their demands are met.
About a dozen Metis people are currently holed up in the building in a show of defiance against the current executive of the Metis Nation of Saskatchewan.
Head demonstrator Penny Hurton is a former member of the METSI board who says she was replaced when area director Henry Cummings took over the institution following this past summer’s election appeals.
She says since that time, staff members at the office have begun to feel intimidated and many are worried for their jobs.
Hurton is calling on the federal government to step in and take control of the METSI office — no matter how long it takes.
Hurton adds staff are still working at their posts today and clients will be served.
But the protesters have brought blankets and food just in case the sit-in lasts longer than expected.
