The suspect in last week’s murder and abduction in the La Ronge area and a subsequent standoff in Sturgeon Landing made his first court appearance this morning.
Forty-three-year-old Jonas Budd is facing several charges that include first-degree murder, kidnapping with a weapon, break and enter and uttering threats.
Budd remains in custody and will be back in court in La Ronge on March 30th.
He is accused of killing 17-year-old Dustin Bird in a Lac La Ronge Indian Band residence and then abducting his 17-year-old stepdaughter.
Budd was taken into custody without incident following a 12-hour standoff with police at a residence in Sturgeon Landing.
Meanwhile, the family has announced that the wake for Dustin will be held at 5 pm Wednesday at the Jonas Roberts Memorial Community Centre.
Dustin’s funeral will be held the following day at the Anglican church in La Ronge.
