The current Mayor of La Loche wants a northern Saskatchewan constituency to have a voice on the federal level from someone who lives in the north
She says as a kid growing up in La Loche, she always wanted to be mayor, but is looking to a different political arena.
“I am living my dream and public life has always been a dream of mine, so I am continuing on with the work that I am doing on a different level,” said Jolibois.
The Desnethe-Missinnipi-Churchill River riding is currently held by Conservative MP Rob Clarke.
“The residents of the constituency have been ignored for far too long at the federal level,” said Jolibois. “I am seeking nomination in our region to bring the concerns of the constituency to Parliament and to work to find solutions for northern people.”
Jolibois says she chose the New Democrats based on advice she received from both elders and young people.
If nominated, Jolibois would be running against Liberal Candidate and former FSIN Chief Lawrence Joseph, and Conservative MP Rob Clarke.
Clarke announced his bid for re-election in October.
Joseph ran for the NDP in the last federal election where he lost to Clarke by less than 800 votes.
The new Liberal candidate cited the leadership of Justin Trudeau as the reason he switched to the Liberal Party.
The upcoming federal election is expected in the fall.
