About two dozen charges have been laid following weekend checkstops conducted by RCMP in northern Saskatchewan.

Mounties say officers from Wollaston Lake, Stony Rapids, Southend and Fond du Lac took part in the operation Friday and Saturday.

The effort focused on preventing alcohol from entering communities where alcohol is prohibited.

Investigators say about 60 vehicles were stopped near Southend.

Officers seized 100 cans of beer, 98 bottles of hard liquor and about 29 grams of marijuana.

The charges include seven counts under the Alcohol & Gaming Regulations Act, three counts of possession of marijuana, various provincial highways violations and a number of probation violations.

Anyone with information on the illegal sale of alcohol and other substances is asked to contact the RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
