A $25-million upgrade is in store for the Carrot River Sawmill.

Edgewood Forest Products made the announcement Thursday morning as well as the signing of a Letter of Intent to sell the Hudson Bay Plywood Plant.

The new investment will replace the primary breakdown sawline at the Carrot River stud mill with a high recovery sawline.

The new sawline will be able to produce more lumber because it will be able to process a greater percentage of logs generated from the licenses currently held by Edgewood.

The capacity of the Carrot River operation will now increase from 100 million to 140 million board feet per year,

The community will also see 50 new full-time employment opportunities thanks to the new investment.

The new equipment is scheduled to be fully operational by January 2016.

Meanwhile, the plan to sell the Hudson Bay Plywood Plant means the mill could restart as early as November, and will initially employ between 25 and 35 people.
