The Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation is holding its first election today since passing a new election code last year.
One of the biggest changes sees the terms of elected officials extended from two years to three.
Incumbent chief Peter A. Beatty has been at the helm for the last two years.
He is being challenged by former chief Darrell McCallum, who held the position for six years before deciding not to seek re-election in 2013.
Karen Bird is the third candidate for chief.
PBCN is one of the largest bands in the province and is spread out over eight communities.
