The Saskatchewan Environment Ministry says an investigation has uncovered a large-scale illegal fish-trafficking ring in the province’s north.
4 men from the Buffalo Narrows area face over $50 thousand dollars in fines for illegal outfitting and fishing.
The Ministry of Environment held an undercover investigation to stop the illegal fish trafficking ring after they received a call in 2011.
Undercover officers say the illegal outfitting was taking place without an outfitters license and officers say they were also approached by fishermen who tried to sell them fish illegally.
In May 2014, the first of the four men was fined nearly $20 thousand dollars in connection with case.
The remaining three men were recently fined over $31 thousand dollars after being found guilty of 11 charges.
All four men are from the Buffalo Narrows and Dillon areas.
