SaskTel Rebate Panned by Northern Development Rep

A community development manager in northern Saskatchewan feels the SaskTel rebate being offered this month to provincial residents is unfair to many people in the North.
The province is applying a credit of $137 to the December phone bills of SaskTel’s residential customers as a way of following through on its promise to offer the lowest costing bundle of utility rates in the country.
But Visions North Community Futures Corporation manager Vicki Fergusson says many northern residents don’t have a phone, and will likely miss out on some timely extra cash.
Fergusson hopes the province might still be persuaded to apply the credit to the power bills for people who don’t have phones — especially in light of the power rate hike that went into effect a few months ago.
SaskTel began sending out the bills with the credits yesterday.
